Shai Coleman, an American software developer, created the Colemak keyboard layout on December 12th, 2005. The Colemak keyboard layout was designed to be more efficient than the traditional QWERTY keyboard layout that is commonly used in English-speaking countries.
- Colemak allows for faster typing speeds while reducing strain on the fingers and hands.
- The Colemak layout places the most frequently used letters in the home row to minimize the need to reach for keys, thus reducing the likelihood of repetitive strain injuries.
- Another advantage of the Colemak keyboard layout is that it maintains some QWERTY key placements for familiar shortcuts like Copy and Paste.
